The North Bay Fire Relief Fund

The North Bay Fire Relief Fund (NBFRF) was created by Redwood Credit Union Community Fund to support the immediate needs of North Bay fire survivors in the four impacted counties of Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake.

The Fund was created in partnership with The Press Democrat, Senator Mike McGuire and Redwood Credit Union. Redwood Credit Union paid all administrative costs, so 100% of donations supported fire survivors.

There are three key phases of disaster relief:

  1. RELIEF: Supports immediate aftermath of disaster (typically up to 120 days). This is the focus of the North Bay Fire Relief Fund.
  2. RECOVERY: Supports mid term needs (typically up to 1-2 years)
  3. REBUILD: Supports long term needs (typically several years following a disaster)

About Donations

$32,028,981

Thanks to the generous donations of thousands of people and organizations near and far, since October 10, 2017, the North Bay Fire Relief Fund has been able to raise and distribute over $32 million to fire survivors and non-profits supporting fire survivors.

Donations have come from 23 countries and nearly 70% of donations have come from outside the four impacted counties of Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake, proving people and organizations around the world care about what happened in the North Bay and want to send a message of hope to fire survivors and our community.

The North Bay Fire Relief Fund (NBFRF) accepted donations through February 15, 2018 and is no longer taking donations. If you’d like to support the North Bay’s continued fire recovery, many nonprofits and community groups are serving our community’s mid and long term recovery needs, including:

How Funds Are Being Used

About fund Allocations

The RCU Community Fund Board determines allocations from the North Bay Fire Relief Fund, with a focus on serving immediate needs of fire survivors. Recommendations are made to the Board from representatives from The Press Democrat, Senator Mike McGuire, and Redwood Credit Union.

For the grants provided to nonprofits, a grant committee comprised of North Bay leaders was formed to review applications and make recommendations based on criteria that included supporting the immediate needs of fire survivors and ensure requests were fully vetted and ready to implement.
